Driving Miss Daisy

My daughter made a comment about an accident that happened near where she lives. A car pedestrian mishap that may have critically injured or killed a man. It brought back memories that my mom told me of the time when her beloved grandpa was killed in a car/pedestrian accident. He had suffered a slight stroke so he wasn't allowed to drive anymore. He was crossing a busy street to catch the street car to come visit them when he was struck and killed by a car. The shocking part was that the car was driven by his best friend. How random is that? What a terrible thing to happen and for the friend to have to live with for the rest of his life.

Years later when they were in their 70's his wife (my Mom's grandma) and her sister were riding together in a taxi. You've seen "Driving Miss Daisy"? They were originally from Georgia and Southern women really didn't drive! It wasn't considered lady like! Before arriving at their destination the car they were riding in was hit by a large truck. One died at the scene and the other died several hours later at a different hospital. My mom remembered attending the double funeral and seeing hundreds of gardenias all over the place. A surviving sister who still lived in Georgia had sent them. Maybe that's why my mom's favorite flower has always been a white gardenia. She grew them to remember her grandmother.

Are you reading this?

Where oh where did my little blog go? I forgot my blog info shortly after I created it quite some time ago and have just today discovered a way to recover it ...such as it is. Basically a blank page. Now that I have it back and I can actually begin writing, it seems a bit odd to be writing something that the whole wide world has access to. It immediately makes me want to put up walls and barriers to keep strangers out of my thoughts. It will take some getting used to but I will give it a try. Hmmm...
